Cattle have played
diverse roles in Korea? agrarian society. Korean bull-fighting dates
back to ancient times, and the Chongdo Korean Bull Fighting Festival
hews to the original version. Today, most fighting bulls are trained
here. Korean bullfighting involves neither a stadium brimful
of people nor a toreador? fancy maneuvers with cape and sword.
It is bull-to-bull combat, held on special occasions (the animals
are not seriously injured) along with traditional seesaw, kite flying,
and other folk merriment.
