Bijarim Forest



 With some 2,900 nutmeg trees growing on 45 hectares (450,000 square meters), this is the biggest monotypic forest of its kind. The trees bloom in April and produce a nut-like seed in late fall Nutmeg fruits are used for Korean Herb medicine in eradicating tapeworms in the body. The tree trunk of nutmeg is used for paduk boards (baduk, or go, is an oriental game checkers-type game). The trees here are believed to be 300-600 years old. The natural flora growing in the forest is of great botanical interest and the area was designated as Natural Monument No. 374. Several wild orchids inhabit this evergreen forest and it is equipped with good camp facilities.
