2000
Period : 2000/03/15-2000/03/19
What is Korean
Style Bullfight?
Bullfight
reminds everybody of a
raging bull and a sharp bullfighter, both are set to
fight furiously against each other. But there is another
far different from that. There's
no blood and no hostility. It's Korean style bullfight.
On the bullring the bull and the handler are partners.
They can feel each other in a
team against the other. Each match is the moment that
they fight for the honor
to be the best. Feel the great challenge in the middle of the enthusiasm, that's
the
way you can enjoy Korean Bullfight.
Chongdo
Bullfight is better conserved
than in any other places. In Chongdo, half of
Korean fighting bulls are brought up, which are shiny
dark brown and over 600 Kg with
strong horns. Last year, during Chongdo bullfight festival, the biggest national
bullfight is taken place in traditional bullring, with over 150,000 audience.
When the world-class bullring is completed in 2001, bullfight would be the most
exciting weekend sports. Since 1998, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has
fostered
Chongdo bullfight festival.
History
Korean bullfight began in the dawn of agricultural society
in Korea. In the beginning,
it was just cattle's small fight to have more
grass and then the owners joined to
encourage their own cattle and this got to catch the
eyes of many people around.
Now bullfight become the honor of the bull and
it's owner from the ancient cowboys'
fun.
Basic rules
On
the bullfighting, two
fighting bulls come up with their handlers. A referee whistles for
a start, then bullfight begins. Well-trained fighting
bulls shove, butt and grunt against
each other until one of them gives up or turns its back.
They show almost 10 kinds of
fighting techniques such as pushing, side
pushing, head pressing, horn drawing etc.
There is no time limit so they show a breathless
match up to 1 hour, somethings.
