Kuryongsa Temple was founded by saint Uisang in 666 AD during the Shilla dynasty. Uisang reclaimed land from the lake in which 9 dragons had been living and established a temple and named the temple Kuryongsa. It is located 6 kilometers toward Hakkok-ri from Pirobong Peak, the highest peak of Mt. Ch'iaksan. This temple is surrounded by beautiful tourist attractions, including Kuryong Waterfall, Kwiam Rock, Hoam Rock and Yongyon Water pool. "Kuryongsa", which means nine dragons temple was named after the nine dragons in the legendary story about Uisang, one of the greatest monks of the Shilla Kingdom, who built this temple in Mt. Chiaksan. |
