    Magoksa Temple

Located south of Mt. T'aehwasan, 37 km from Kongju-shi, Magoksa Temple was first built by Chajangyulsa, a revered monk, in 642 during the Paekche Kingdom. According to a few old topography books, such as T'aengni-ji and Chonggamnok, this temple, surrounded by beautiful mountains and streams, is a haven from wars. It boasts several marvelous views, especially in the spring, from numerous hermitages such as Yongunam (0.2 km), Taewonam (0.4 km), Unjogam (0.6 km) and Ch'ongnyonam (0.3 km). On the rock alongside the stream running in front of Magoksa Temple grows Koranch'o, a rare orchid species with bright-green color.
