Sangwonsa
Temple on Mt.Odae was built by Chajangyulsa (a revered Buddhist monk) together with Woljungsa Temple during the
reign of Queen Sondok of the Shilla Kingdom.
It is said that two kings of the Choson Dynasty, Taejo and Sejo,
paid a visit to this temple for the dedication of Dongjasang(wooden
figure of a child Bodhisattva).
A bronze bell
(National Treasure No.36) which measures 1.67 meters in height and
91 centimeters in diameter is preserved in this temple. Cast in
the 24th year of the reign of King Songdok of the Shilla Kingdom,
the bell is believed to be the oldest of Korea's extant bells. It
is also well-known for its beautiful sound.
