This is a confucian academy established by Joo Sebung in memory of Anhyang, one of
the greatest confucian scholars during Koryo Dynasty in 1542,
the 37 th year of King Joongjong
of Chosun Dynasty.  
Joo Sebung was then governor
of Poonggi County. It was given
the title of "Saaekseowon" which
was exempt of national duty and taxation together with books, servants, and rice paddies.

The academy has the portrait of Anhyang (National Treasure #111) and the portrait
of Joo Sebung (Listed Treasure #717) in the relics museum.
