Release of Anti-communist P.O.W.S

 
 


    The opposition movement against the ceasefire agreement was continued in the major cities throughout Korea as the absolute intention of Korean people was disregarded, and at 00.00 hrs of June 18, 1953, the Anti-Communist and patrotic P.O.W.s were released, which was the President Singman Rhee's decision ordered securely to Lieutenant General WON, Yong Deock, the Provost Marshal on June 10, which was the decision of the world pacifist.
The released P.O.W.s at that time were 4, 322 persons in Pusan District, 10,432 in Kwangju District, 8,024 in Nonsan District, 3,936 in Masan District, 904 in Yeoncheon District, 538 in Bupyong District and 233 in Taegu District, etc., and 27,389 in all. 









 


 The residents to their lands after the withdrawal of P.O.W Camp

 

  Upon the ceasefire agreement of July 27, 1953, the P.O.W.s were exchanged and the Camp was closed. From the Spring in 1955, the evacuated residents returned to their lands and 880 consents of P.O.W. barracks were given and transferred to them by the Health and Social Ministry, together with £Ü3 million for agricultural land restoration expense. The evacuated residents cultivated the completely devasted lands to restore and it has been developed as present.
